Elected history

Councillor Jim Capstick, South Tyneside Council’s longest serving councillor and Honorary Freeman of the Borough, sadly passed away on Monday 13 February 2012. Councillor Capstick was first elected to the council in 1967. He was Leader of the Progressive Association on South Tyneside and during his years of service represented the West Park, Cleadon Park and Harton Wards. Described as “a true gentleman and a role model for people wanting to change things for the better”, he gave outstanding service over four decades to his party and the Wards he represented and, with the Freemasons, raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities.
