South Tyneside Homes' tenants are being encouraged to get creative with their decorations this Christmas as a search is launched to find the best-dressed festive home in the Borough.
South Tyneside Homes, the company that manages the Council's housing stock, is calling on tenants to dig out their twinkling lights, Yuletide models and other seasonal items to display outside their homes and bring some festive cheer on the dark winter evenings.
A prize of £100 worth of shopping vouchers will be awarded to the household with the most impressive set of exterior decorations.
Isobel Riley, Chief Executive of South Tyneside Homes, said: "We have seen the effort that many of our customers put into these decorations and recognise how this is a fun way to enhance community spirit. We thought it would be a great idea to run a competition in recognition of this and I wish everyone the best of luck."
Whilst the emphasis is on fun, tenants are reminded to follow basic safety precautions. These include no electrical overloading or overloading of external fixtures such as guttering or drain pipes, avoid drilling into external features, leave all emergency escape routes clear and not to encroach on other people's property.
Tenants who decorate their gardens and the outside of their homes are invited to submit a photo of their seasonal efforts either by email to: communications@southtynesidehomes.org.uk or in the post to "Christmas Competition", Strathmore, 11 Rolling Mill Road, Jarrow, NE32 3DP. Entries will be judged during the week commencing Monday 14th December.
