Christmas will be a dazzling affair for the people of South Shields and Hebburn as they look forward to seeing their festive lights get switched-on.

The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor John Anglin will be switching on the festive displays in South Shields tomorrow (Saturday 21st November), between 2pm and 5pm, at the junction of King Street and Ocean Road.

The Mayor will be joined by pop duo The Cheeky Girls to carry out the official switch-on. Tommy the Trumpeter will be hosting the event and entertainment will be provided by Bedewell School Choir and Magic Martin.

The Hebburn switch-on takes place on Monday (23rd November), between 4pm and 5pm in Fountain Park. Once again, the Mayor will be performing the official switch-on. Tommy the Trumpeter will be leading the festive entertainment introducing St Aloysius Junior School Choir, Mr Merlin and Christmas Crackers.

Santa Claus himself will be making a special appearance at both events.

The Borough's Christmas lights are being provided by the Light It partnership of South Tyneside Council and Balfour Beatty.
