Plans to improve the homes of people living in the Lincoln Road area of Horsley Hill will be on show at next week's (Thursday 26th November) meeting of the East Shields Community Area Forum.
Representatives from South Tyneside Homes will be at St Gregory's Church Hall on Thursday at 6pm to talk to residents about plans for improving the non-traditional homes. They will be asking for their views and taking any questions people may have about the work.
Forum Chairman, Councillor Alex Donaldson said: "I'm very pleased that South Tyneside Homes will be coming along to the CAF meeting to discuss Lincoln Road and the planned improvements to heating and insulation as well as decent homes work. As this meeting is at the beginning of the major consultation period it will be very informative for everyone who lives in that area and is concerned about their home."
The meeting will also get an update on the progress of the new state-of-the-art Harton School which has recently been granted planning permission. A member of the Council's School Improvement team will be talking about the plans and answering any questions about the multi-million pound school.
Construction work on the 630-place community primary school will begin early in the New Year with the school scheduled to open in February 2011.
Councillor Donaldson added: "This fantastic new Harton School will sit at the heart of the community and I'm confident that it will provide a vibrant learning facility that will contribute to the lives of the children, families and residents it serves, in so many ways. It will be a huge asset to the East Shields area. I'm delighted work will soon begin and the fantastic new school will be opening its doors before too long."
A representative from The South Tyneside Association of Neighbourhood Watches will also be at the meeting to give a presentation on its work with the police to reduce crime in the area.
The presentation will give an overview of the organisation and the work it does such as security marking belongings and supporting victims of crime by providing CCTV equipment, as well as activities undertaken in the Forum area.
Other items on the agenda include an update from Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and the Council on community safety issues.
Members of the press and public are welcome to attend the meeting of the East Shields Community Area Forum, which takes place on Thursday 26th November at 6pm, in St Gregory's Church Hall, St Gregory's Court (off Borough Road), South Shields.
