Kind-hearted shoppers at a South Shields store have dug deep and helped to raise more than £1,100 for good causes in the Borough.
The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor John Anglin and his wife Chris, were in Asda South Shields last weekend helping to pack shoppers' bags, and raised a staggering £1,128.
All the proceeds will go into the Mayor's Charity fund, which this year is supporting Cancer Connections, 2 by 2 Children's Foundation and the Stroke Unit at South Tyneside District Hospital.
The Mayor said: "This is such a fantastic amount of money. We are absolutely delighted and thankful to all the Asda shoppers who gave so generously. A big thank you must also go to Asda's local management team, who not only allowed us to do this bag pack but also helped out to make it successful. Thanks to donations like this, these very worthy causes are able to continue the marvellous work they do in supporting people across South Tyneside."
