The ‘Vote Joe’ flags flying high on South Shields Town Hall.

South Tyneside Council is flying the flag for X Factor hopeful Joe McElderry.

Six flags featuring 18-year-old Joe's face and 'Vote Joe' messages of support have been put up on flagpoles on South Shields Town Hall, in Westoe Road.

The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor John Anglin said: "We are very proud of Joe and we are backing him one hundred per cent. That's why we are flying these flags to encourage people in the Borough and beyond to get behind him, vote for him and make his X Factor dream come true.

"Joe has a remarkable talent - a true star, and he's an excellent ambassador for South Tyneside and the North East. We will be keeping the flags in place while Joe remains in the competition, and we think that he will go all the way!"
