About South Tyneside Warm Zone
The South Tyneside Warm Zone initiative began in 2008. Since then the Warm Zone has delivered home insulation improvements and energy efficiency advice to nearly 11,000 homes with an estimated carbon saving of 7,000 tonnes per year - that's an expected lifetime carbon saving of over a quarter of a million tonnes.
Initially planned to run for 2 years, the South Tyneside Warm Zone project has now been extended to December 2012.
By the end of the scheme the expectation is that South Tyneside residents will have saved over £1 million in annual fuel bills with the average householder in South Tyneside cutting their energy costs by up to £250, just by insulating their loft and cavity walls.
