Officers from South Tyneside Homes Tenancy Enforcement Team, Northumbria Police and Community WardensSouth Tyneside is now a safer place to live than it has been in decades thanks to the work of the 'Safer South Tyneside' Partnership.

  • Total crime in South Tyneside is down by 15%.
  • Anti-social behaviour incidents reported to the Anti-social Behaviour Unit have reduced by 21%.
  • The number of young people committing offences has dropped by 28%.
  • Violent crime has fallen by 14%.  
  • Calls to the Community Wardens decreased by 11%.
  • Offenders completed over 15,000 hours of Community Payback.
  • 628 Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators and 82 Community Crime Fighters help keep the Borough safe.
  • 192 CCTV cameras have led to 926 arrests.
  • Our Victims Champion supported 93 victims of anti-social behaviour.
