Taxicards

A TaxiCard is a smartcard, the same size as a credit card, and you can use it to pay for part of your taxi journey.

You qualify for a TaxiCard if you:

  • Receive the high rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Receive higher rate attendance allowance
  • Are registered as severely visually impaired or blind

There are 2 chances to join the scheme each very year - in March and again in September.

If you join the scheme in March your TaxiCard will have £100 worth of credit on it when you receive it, for use between 28 March and 2 October 2011. You will then be sent a brand new TaxiCard with £125 of credit for use between 3 October 2011 and 25 March 2012.

If you join in September, your TaxiCard will have £125 worth of credit for use between 3 October and 25 March.

How much will I pay?

You use the TaxiCard to pay half of the fare for trips up to £6. After that, the TaxiCard covers £3 and you pay the rest of the fare yourself.

How to apply

You'll need to request a TaxiCard application form from Nexus by calling (0191) 20 20 777 or emailing access@nexus.org.uk.
