Menswear Store Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Press release
A South Tyneside business is dressed for success.
Independent designer menswear store, Northern Threads has gone from strength to strength and is celebrating its 5th anniversary in South Shields.
Directors Philip Goodfellow and Nigel Binnie opened their first store in Ocean Road back in 2006 with only themselves and an assistant. During this time they have received support from South Tyneside Council both to start up and to grow their business.
As well as expanding with the opening of Edit Clothing in the nearby Denmark Centre, the company has developed a highly successful website selling to customers as far afield as America, Europe and Asia.
This continued growth has resulted in the company taking on a further 3,000sq ft of office and warehouse space in nearby Mile End Road and employing 17 local people, including the two directors.
Councillor Michael Clare, Lead Member Regeneration, Economic Growth and Jobs said: "The continued expansion of Northern Threads and Edit Clothing is a fantastic success story and a real vote of confidence in South Tyneside. Philip, Nigel and their team have built up a great business and are to be congratulated on their success and their anniversary."
"It's proof that a mix of hard work, a strong business model and support from the Council's Economic Growth team is a winning formula. The team offers fantastic support to existing companies and encourages new firms to settle and expand in the borough."
Councillor Clare added: "As part of our ambitious regeneration plans the Council is working hard to transform South Shields town centre to attract more shoppers and visitors. King Street has been given a makeover and now looks very smart while work has started on a £350,000 scheme to improve Ocean Road."
Phil Goodfellow, Director of Northern Threads said "The Council have been very supportive from day one in helping us to establish both Northern Threads and Edit Clothing. We are extremely grateful for the support we have received and look forward to developing our business even further in the future".
