Mental health services for young people
It's not unusual for children and young people to experience stress or anxiety caused by events like bereavement or parents separating.
Most of these problems resolve themselves over time with non-specialist help and support, but if they don't then the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service can help.
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is a range of services for children and young people aged up to 18.
Our team of therapists, health workers and medical professionals are experts in emotional and behavioural problems and mental health disorders. They are trained in communicating with young people about how they are feeling.
Contacting the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service
Normally a social worker, doctor or educational psychologist who works with the young person concerned will contact the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
We have people based at Palmer's Hospital in Jarrow and in Laygate in South Shields. We also have specialists at the Monkwearmouth Hospital on the northern edge of Sunderland.
