Children and Families Plan
The Children and Families Board (formerly the Children and Young People's Alliance) has produced a Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) for each of the past five years.
In 2010, the Coalition Government removed the legislative requirement to produce a CYPP. However, the Child Poverty Act of the same year placed a statutory requirement on the local authority and its partners to produce a Child Poverty Needs Assessment and Strategy.
The Board agreed to produce a combined Children and Families Plan and Child Poverty Strategy to provide some strategic focus for its future work, whilst meeting its legislative obligations.
It focuses on three key priorities, which the Board views as being critical to the future prosperity and wellbeing of children and families:
- Safeguarding children and giving them the best start in life
- Raising aspirations
- Improving health and wellbeing
The strategy covers a three-year period, but will be subject to an annual refresh of its commissioning and delivery plan.
