Visitors to the District Scout Campsite in Whitburn are delighted after the approach road to the site was given a new surface.
The road surface was replaced after concerns were raised over the state of the lay-by which leads up to the entrance gates of West Hall Campsite in Moore Lane.
The work was carried out with more than £3,000 in funding from the East Shields and Whitburn Community Area Forum and the Council's Highway Team.
The scheme has delighted Whitburn and Marsden ward councillors Peter Boyack, Tracey Dixon and Sylvia Spraggon, who recently visited the campsite to see the improvements.
Councillor Boyack said: "We are delighted with the results. There had been issues with vehicles parking and churning up the land by the roadside, which became worse after periods of bad weather. The new surface looks so much better."
Councillor Dixon said: "Due to the state of the road, there were also problems with flooding at the site entrance. However we are confident that these road improvements will help to prevent any further problems."
Councillor Spraggon added: "We are always keen to hear of any problems local people come across and welcome any ideas they have that could improve the area."
Russ Legross, District Chairman of South Tyneside Scouts, said: "We are delighted with the work that has been done at the West Hall site. The new surface in the lay-by has made a real difference, not only to the appearance of the area, but for vehicles using this stretch of road. It has also really helped to alleviate flooding. I'd like to thank the Council and local members for their support on the matter."
