Green Bin Collections Set To Resume
Fortnightly green bin garden waste collections are set to resume in South Tyneside this weekend.
The first collections will take place tomorrow (Saturday March 17) and calendars are being sent to residents to inform them of their new green bin collection day.
A Council spokesman said: "We have made some changes to our bin collection routes to increase the efficiency of our waste collection service.
"This means that residents' green bins may not be collected on the same day as their refuse and blue bins.
"Everything is explained in the calendars which residents will receive before their first collection is due. The new collection dates are also available on our website.
"The garden waste service is critical in helping us to reduce the amount of rubbish that is sent to landfill.
"Use of landfill is not only bad for the environment but increasingly costly for councils so the more waste we can compost or recycle the better."
For further information call the Council's Customer Contact Centre on (0191) 427 7000 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm, Saturday, 9am to 1pm) or visit www.southtyneside.info/recycle.
