Farewell For Forum Chairman
Press release
People living in the Jarrow and Boldon areas of South Tyneside can find out what is happening in their neighbourhoods when Councillor Tom Hanson oversees his final meeting of the local community area forum on Thursday (19th April).
Councillor Hanson is retiring after 20 years as an elected member on South Tyneside Council. He was appointed to the role as Forum Chairman in May 2009.
He said: "It's been a great privilege to be in the role of Chairman, working with various Council teams and partners to help discuss and address issues that affect the everyday lives of local residents. I wish my successor all the best in their new role."
One of the issues up for discussion at Thursday's meeting is security improvements in Jarrow Cemetery. A review of security was carried out after concerns were raised about anti social behaviour, particularly when it the grounds are closed to the public.
The Forum will receive an update about the action taken so far by the Council's Bereavement Services team and Community Wardens. This has involved monitoring activity in the cemetery over a six month period with numerous visits and extra patrols, as well as repairs and improvements to the boundary fencing.
Nick Huston, Development Team Leader from South Tyneside Homes, will also outline how the housing company is introducing low carbon technologies and environmentally-friendly initiatives as part of its housing improvement works.
A representative from the NHS South of Tyne and Wear will also talk about the work it is doing to improve people's emotional health and wellbeing in the Borough.
Members of the press and public are welcome to attend the next meeting of the Jarrow and Boldon Community Area Forum, which takes place on Thursday 19th April, at 10am, in Jarrow Town Hall, Grange Road, Jarrow.
