Jobcentre Plus
Job Centre Plus advertise vacancies and staff can also help you claim any benefits you might be entitled to while you are looking for work.
You can contact Jobseeker Direct telephone helpline on 0845 6060234. Jobseeker Direct is a quick and easy phone service, which keeps you in touch with the latest job vacancies and helps you find the job that's right for you. This service is available from weekdays 8am to 6pm, and Saturdays 9am to 1pm. You can also visit the Job Centre Plus website for more information.
Jobcentre Plus offers several services which support people with health issues and disabilities to get back into work, as well as parents with in-depth and expert advice covering Tax Credits and Childcare for those returning to work. All services are delivered from the borough's two Jobcentres listed below:

Next Step
Next Step provides information and advice to support adults in making appropriate decisions on a full range of learning and work opportunities.
The service is delivered by qualified careers advisors via a contact centre, a website or by face to face.
The service is free of charge and can be accessed by phoning 0800 100 900 and minicom 08000 568 865 or by visiting Next Step (Directgov)
Services for Young People
Services for Young People offer careers information, advice and guidance for 13-19 year olds (and up to 25 with Special Education Needs).
You can contact Services for Young People by calling 0191 424 6630 or visiting in person, Ocean Road Community Centre, Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm.

Other support
South Tyneside Collegeprovides advice and information on a wide variety of training courses. A number of short courses are available for unemployed residents who are looking to get back into work via STEP Programmes (Back to work). The courses are free of charge and will offer the chance to learn new skills and increase confidence - benefits will not be affected.
TEDCOoffers information and advice on every aspect of running a business, including business start-up, survival, success and growth. Tedco manages three business centres in South Tyneside.
