Personal search of the Local Land Charges Register
Anyone may make a personal search of the Local Land Charges Register. An appointment system is available at 24 hours notice.
It must be stressed that a personal search is only of the Local Land Charges Register and does not provide answers to questions asked on the CON29 enquiry form. Once the register has been inspected, the personal search has been concluded. A print out of any entry recorded in the Local Land Charges Register together with a plan showing the extent of the adopted highway will be provided but will not bear the official stamp. You may also examine other registers open to public inspection including the Planning Register.
The council received notification from Defra in July 2010, stating, the Government has concluded that charging a fee for a personal search of the Local Land Charges register is incompatible with the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the underlying 2003 EU Directive. The Government has therefore revoked the current £22 fee. South Tyneside Council has stopped charging this fee with immediate effect.
