Business Park Proposal - Next Steps

The development of Tyne Wear Park is a long term project, which will involve the Council and local community as well as key regional bodies such as One North East.

The first step is to go through the process of including the site within our new Local Development Framework, with a specific Area Action Plan for Tyne Wear Park. To do this we need to define the precise boundaries of the site and examine issues such as access points, scale and design of buildings, and develop plans for landscaping and public uses. This work will be incorporated within an Area Action Plan which (when adopted) will be an integral part of the Council's Local Development Framework.

The process of turning Tyne Wear Park into a reality makes provision for extensive consultation with the public, landowners and other interested parties.

It is planned to undertake public consultation when a number of options have been drawn up. This will take place in Summer 2005. At this point members of the public and local businesses will have an opportunity to make their views known on the principle of these proposals.

Comments from this first consultation exercise will be analysed and incorporated, where possible, into a second draft document in Spring 2006. Any objections at this stage will be heard at an independent public examination later in 2006.

If the Inspector is convinced about the justification for an employment site in this location we would expect to adopt the Area Action Plan in Spring 2007.
