A Beacon For Older People

One of the original 10 Key Tasks we set ourselves was to become a beacon for older people, celebrating the many skills, abilities and achievements of older people in South Tyneside.

Our first Older People's Festival in October 2004 was hailed a massive success and saw hundreds of people take part in an extensive programme of exciting and mostly free activities. The aim of the Festival was to promote better health and greater social inclusion among older people.

It was jointly organised by a partnership of South Tyneside Primary Care Trust, Age Concern, South Tyneside Health Care Trust, South Tyneside Council and the Customs House.

Roy McLachlan, Chief Executive of South Tyneside Primary Care Trust and Chair of the Transformation Healthy Living and Care Priority Group said:

"The Primary Care Trust is delighted to have been involved in this ground-breaking event in South Tyneside. We hope that it has made a positive impact on the lives of Older People here in the Borough, and we would like to look at the possibility of making this an annual event."
