Transforming South Tyneside
 Transforming Together

Transforming Education

Young people and the skills they will be able to offer are a critical part of the future for South Tyneside.

The Building Schools for the Future project gives us a fantastic opportunity to give young people the best chances in life that we can.

We are also working together in South Tyneside to ensure that our schools of the future will be excellent places to learn and valuable resources for everyone. The aim is to open up schools to people of all ages, placing our learning centres at the heart of our communities and making South Tyneside a place where learning is never over.

South Tyneside Council made a successful bid to secure £112 million of funding for the Borough under the Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme.

This means every secondary school and some special schools and units in the Borough will be rebuilt or remodelled. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to transform learning for our young people.

In addition to this, we are rebuilding and bringing together a number of other schools to compliment the Building Schools for the Future Programme.

The new Westoe Crown School is already open and includes state-of-the-art facilities, sports fields, a nature area and a nursery play area. Plans are also well under way to develop schools in Boldon, Whitburn and Cleadon.

Recently we announced a start date of 3rd May for the new school in Boldon. The 1050-pupil school, which will have a four-lane swimming pool and 200-seat theatre, will offer unparalleled learning opportunities for students and the wider community alike. It is being built with £17.5m of Private Finance Initiative Cash.
