What is anti-social behaviour?

Anti-social behaviour is defined in the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 as:

"Behaviour likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress to members of the public not of the same household as the perpetrator."

South Tyneside Council has developed a strategy to tackle anti-social behaviour across the borough.

This strategy adopts four key themes:

  • education
  • prevention
  • support
  • enforcement
