Direct Payments

Instead of having services provided by South Tyneside Council you can choose to receive a cash alternative (Direct Payments) for community care instead. This means that you can buy social care services that you need from other sources.

Direct payments can be used to pay for the services you have been assessed as requiring, including short breaks, to give you a break from your caring role.

Direct payments are available to most service users and carers aged 16 or over. However there are some exceptions; your Care Manager/Care Co-ordinator will be able to advise you. If you do not have a Care Manager/Care Co-ordinator the Direct Payments Team will be able to give you advice.
