Assessing your needs
If you have a physical disability or have difficulty with basic
household tasks, the service may be able to provide some assistance.
The first stage in this process will be assessing your needs.
A member of staff from the Social Care and Health Department
or the Health Care Trust (usually an Occupational Therapist
or District Nurse) will meet with you to find out which tasks
you have difficulty with in your home. This information will
be used to determine firstly, whether you need assistance to
live safely in your own home and secondly, if you do, what
kind of assistance you require. To arrange an assessment please
telephone Adult Services Enquiries on 0845 130 4959. Or ask
your GP or District Nurse if you have one.
Equipment Recycling
The Community Equipment Service provides a collection service,
recovering equipment from your home as well as Health Centres,
district nurse bases and other similar locations. Rigorous
procedures are in place within the stores to safely clean all
recovered equipment to a standard agreed with the Infection
Control department, meeting current legislation and general
good practice. Procedures covering safety inspections are also
in place to ensure that equipment to be re-issued meets manufacturers'
guidelines or other appropriate safety standards.
It is essential for ALL equipment no longer required, to be returned
to the STAR Centre in order to carry out the full recycling process
prior to use by any other person.
