Nannies

A nanny is employed by you to look after your child in your home. Many have nursery nurse training or childcare qualifications, however, this is not compulsory.

There is no national nanny register so, unlike other carers, nannies are not inspected by Ofsted, unless they are a nanny share, and so care for children from more than two families.

Nanny share does make this option more affordable. In April 2005, the government introduced a voluntary approval scheme for nannies. The Families Information Service only holds information on approved nannies.
