South Tyneside Community Legal Service

What is the CLS Partnership?

Community Legal Service Partnerships (CLSP) are at the heart of the CLS. They bring together those who fund legal and advice services (such as the Legal Services Commission, the local authorities, local and national charities) with those who supply these services (such as lawyers and advice centres). Partnerships can also involve groups who represent the interests of users of legal and advice services, such as community groups. The job of such Partnerships is to assess the need for legal services in their area. They must also work together to ensure that the right kinds of services are available to meet priority needs.

South Tyneside established its CLSP Steering Group in February 2003. The Steering Group has a diverse membership including South Tyneside Council, the Legal Services Commission, the Law Society, the Citizens Advice Bureau and a number of other independent advice agencies.

Strategic Advice Plan

The CLSP has conducted a wide-ranging strategic review of advice need and advice services in South Tyneside and has published a draft Strategic Advice Plan. The Plan sets out what we believe are the priorities for advice service development in South Tyneside.

The CLSP welcomes any comments that you may have about the Plan. The consultation period will run until the 31st January 2004. Contact details for those wishing to respond to the Plan are set out at the bottom of this page. Written, fax or email submissions are accepted.

CLSP Membership

Steering Group members meet every 1-2 months. The Group welcomes the involvement of those with an expertise or an interest in advice services. We also maintain a list of CLSP Network members for those who wish to be kept informed of general developments in the CLSP. Our Network members also are utilised for consultation purposes.
