About us
South Tyneside Council has deep roots in its community, providing services that touch the lives of each and every one of its residents on a daily basis. The Fostering and Adoption service touches only some of those lives and in a very special way. We always strive to continuously develop our service to ensure we are best placed to meet the needs of our carers and most importantly the children in their care.
We are wholly committed, wherever possible, to maintaining vulnerable children within their own families, near to friends and their communities. However, where this is not possible we have an equal commitment to providing those children with safe, secure and loving alternative carers.
In these circumstances children and young people become vulnerable and have to deal with a lot of change, and this is where the Fostering and Adoption Service comes in. How well they cope relies in no small part to the extraordinary commitment of our team members and our foster and adoptive carers.
We hope that these pages can answer many of your questions but feel free to contact us for an informal and down to earth chat. You may decide not to take things further, that’s fine, fostering or adoption is a complex process and it often really helps to talk through your concerns or questions with us to help you decide the right direction for you.
