Fostering and adoption: Adoption

BoyThere are many reasons why children cannot live with their birth parents. Adoption by a new family enables these children to have a stable, secure and loving upbringing.

We understand that choosing to adopt is not a decision that you will have made quickly or easily and we are here to talk you through the process and support you as you make decisions.

More recently it has become possible for some adopted children to have ongoing contact with their birth family after an Adoption Order is made, if it is in the child's best interests. Children may have occasional face-to-face contact meetings with their birth family or contact may be made through exchange of letters or photographs once or twice a year via a 'postbox' system.

Any member of the Adoption Service will be happy to talk to you about this or any other aspect of the more innovative ways in which we work.
