South Tyneside Early Prevention Panels (STEPP)

Young people at risk

 Children aged 8-16 year are more vulnerable and are at greater risk of being involved in anti-social behaviour or crime.

Children who offend are often those who are exposed to significant risk factors, such as:

  • Offending family members or peers.
  • School exclusion or truancy.
  • Bullying.
  • Alcohol/substance misuse.
  • Family problems, domestic violence.
  • Emotional/mental health issues.
  • Deprived neighbourhood.
  • Involvement in anti-social behaviour.
  • Children/Young people who have received a police reprimand.
  • Children/ young people living or socialising within known high crime area.
  • Children/young people whose behaviour is concern and has a detrimental impact on other individuals in the community.
  • Children and parents/carers who consent to the referral and are willing to voluntarily co-operate with the support programme.
