Youth Offending Service: Specialist services

Constructive activities

Sometimes when a young person gets involved in anti-social behaviour or offending there is a clear link between what they do and the lack of opportunity they have for engaging in constructive activity in their leisure time. The YOS has a Youth Worker who is available to young people to help them to make better use of their spare time by supporting them in getting involved in the wide range of activities normally already available within their community. The idea is to help them develop positive interests, new friends and self esteem through safe, law-abiding and, hopefully, fun activities that are sustainable when they no longer need our services. The YOS also runs a limited range of positive activities itself when it has not been possible, for whatever reason, to engage the young person in community based provision.
