Planning policy and proposals
Public consultation
There will be public consultation stages throughout the preparation of the LDF.
The consultation stages give you the opportunity to let us know what you would like to see for the South Tyneside of the 21st Century.
How can I get involved?
Guidance on how you can get involved and influence the preparation of the Local Development Framework is set out in our consultation strategy, the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).
The SCI also sets out how we will seek to involve you in the planning process, including guidance on the consideration of planning applications within the borough through the development control process.

When do consultations take place?
Details of when public consultation stages for the Local Development Framework are due to take place are set out in our Local Development Scheme (LDS), which is our guide to the LDF and the planning system.
This also sets out when any independent examinations (public inquiries) are due to happen and the expected final adoption dates for each LDF document.
You can also see the LDF newsletter for information on the latest consultations
Where can I download the LDF documents?
See our guide to LDF documents
How do I respond to LDF consultation exercises?
Responses (including written representations of support or objection) should be made using the appropriate statutory response form corresponding to the consultation stage of the document you wish to make comments on.
If alternative document-specific response forms or questionnaires are not provided, the following forms should be used for commenting on all draft LDF documents at the consultation stage:
- Questionnaire response forms for making representations on initial draft documents
- Response form for making representations on 'publication draft' documents
See the guide to LDF documents to download these forms.
