Plastic bottle and cardboard collection trial
We’ve been doing a trial collection service to collect plastic bottles and cardboard on two of our collection rounds in the borough.
Residents in Cleadon, Whitburn, Boldon, and Hebburn were given wheeled bins to recycle their used plastic bottles and cardboard packaging, replacing a scheme where residents were supplied with purple sacks.
This trial started in September 2008 and has so far proved to be an overwhelming success, so it has been decided to extend the trial to the remaining households in Hebburn, on the particular collection round who were not part of the original trial.
In January 2009 these remaining residents will receive a letter introducing the new collection service, and shortly afterwards will receive the new wheeled bin to allow them to recycle their cardboard and plastic bottles from home.
The recycling wheeled bin is the same size as a normal refuse bin. If you have any problems storing the bin, or would like advice on the scheme then you can contact the Customer Contact Centre on 427 7000.
The wheeled bins will be emptied fortnightly, on the same day as the refuse bin, and on the same week as the Kerb-it recycling box.
If you want to know when your collection day is, or if you would like a new calendar or box, please call 427 7000, or email us at recycle@southtyneside.gov.uk
