Waste

Bulky waste

Leather armchair

Bulky waste can be large items of furniture or household appliances which are too big for you to dispose of on your own.

Examples of bulky waste are:

  • Beds
  • Armchairs and setees
  • Wardrobes
  • Carpets
  • Fridges
  • Washing machines

Each household can request up to three collections per calendar year at a cost of £6 per collection, with up to eight individual items collected on each occasion.

If you require more than three collections in each calendar year, you will be charged for each additional collection.

The cost for this will be £21 for up to eight items on each occasion.

White goods

White goods are appliances such as fridges, freezers or washing machines.

These items can be collected by our community sector partner, Renew North East.

RNE are collecting these items so that they can be repaired and re-sold instead of being disposed of.

If you are also having furniture items collected, you will have two separate collections and every effort is made to collect everything that you've listed on the same day.

Booking a bulky waste collection

  • When booking the service, list everything that needs to be collected. Only items that are on the list will be taken.
  • If your collection is from a back lane, please identify your house number on the back door or wall
  • Only put out waste on the day of collection, as it could cause an obstruction or may be set on fire if left overnight
  • Put items out before 8am on the day of the collection and ensure access is available between until 5pm that day
  • Stack all items to be collected tidily in the same area
