The Building Control Group within South Tyneside Council operates as part of Regulatory Services within the Regeneration and Resources Directorate, and is co-ordinated with the Area Planning, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing and Planning, Housing and Transport Futures teams with close links to Highways and Design.
The main function of Building Control is to ensure that standards of building, within the Borough, meet the requirements necessary to protect the health and safety of everyone, whether at home, work or leisure.
