Ordinary, traditional sections
These sections are available in all of the cemeteries, although numbers are limited in some locations. The whole of the grave space may be planted out if the family so wishes. These sections are particular suitable for those families who prefer to tend the grave space themselves and if they wish to apply for full memorials and kerbsets.
Graves in ordinary sections allow for full planting schemes, but do require regular care and attention, or they can quickly become unsightly.
Due to the historical layout of traditional sections access to some graves by people with mobility difficulties can be restricted. We will undergo individual site-specific risk assessments for access to such graves upon request.
Allowed:
- Planting of full grave space
- Full kerbset (planting around the edge of grave space)
Not allowed:
- Fencing or plastic or wire edging of any kind
Lawn type sections
These sections are available at Boldon, Harton and Whitburn Cemeteries and could be made available in Hebburn. Each grave is fully lawned apart from a narrow floral strip (60cm) at the memorial end of each grave. Graves may only be planted within this floral strip or a small edging kerb may be fitted.
Allowed:
- Floral strip
- Memorial and floral strip
Not allowed:
- Planting of full grave space
- Any kind of edging or fencing around full grave space
- Kerbstone around full grave
