Roll of remembrance
People can commemorate the memory of a lost loved member of the family by placing an entry in the Roll of Remembrance. All entries in the book are are displayed annually for a full week on the anniversary of the date of death.
The roll of remembrance is permanently displayed the Chapel of Remembrance, which is situated to the right of the Crematorium building, providing a lasting and dignified memorial.
The roll is hand-made with leaves lettered by highly skilled craftsmen. The roll is dated to give an opening for each day of the year in order that entries may be viewed on each anniversary.
The chapel comprises a large ornate stained glass window and tiered floral tribute stands, where floral tributes may be left in memory of a lost loved one.
In addition to placing an entry in the book, families can also order individual remembrance cards and books to either keep at home or send to distant relatives or friends.

An electronic version of the roll of remembrance is now available and can be viewed every day of the year, not just for the week of the deceased's anniversary.

Requesting an entry
The minimum entry is two lines and the maximum is eight. Entries of five lines or more may include a flower, badge etc.
Orders should be placed at least 6 months before the date of the anniversary.

An appointment system is operated for anyone with mobility difficulties who wishes to view a specific page in the book, please contact the admin office on 0191 427 3190.
Please note
Excessive humidity from the display of floral tributes has an effect on the pages of the book, the council will move the floral tributes to another chapel on a daily basis in order to restrict the quantity of floral tributes in this room.
The council also reserve the right to move floral tributes to an alternative location within the grounds of the crematorium during busy periods on health and safety grounds to avoid the risk of trips, slips and falls.
