Trees are great for brightening up our surroundings, but they also play an important part in the everyday life of all living things.
What trees do:
- Produce oxygen that we breathe
- Clean the air by absorbing dust and other particles
- Provide food and a home for wildlife, especially birds
- Reduce the risk of flooding by taking in water and stabilising soil
- Woodland and groups of trees lessen noise pollution from industry and traffic
- Lessen wind speeds in towns and cities
- Reduce the greenhouse effect by taking in carbon dioxide
