Climate change: Plant a tree and make South Tyneside greener

Trees are great for brightening up our surroundings, but they also play an important part in the everyday life of all living things.

What trees do:

Tree
  • Produce oxygen that we breathe
  • Clean the air by absorbing dust and other particles
  • Provide food and a home for wildlife, especially birds
  • Reduce the risk of flooding by taking in water and stabilising soil
  • Woodland and groups of trees lessen noise pollution from industry and traffic
  • Lessen wind speeds in towns and cities
  • Reduce the greenhouse effect by taking in carbon dioxide
