Ways to save water at home

*

Take showers instead of baths - you could save enough water each week for 1000 cups of tea.

*

Fix dripping taps. A tap dripping once a second can waste 13 litres a day or 4750 litres a year.

*

Boil only as much water in the kettle as you need - in one week you could save enough money to light your house for 1 day

*

Don't leave the tap running when you brush your teeth or wash your hands. Using a beaker when you brush your teeth can save 10-14 litres every time!

*

Install a water saving device in your toilet. These are available free from Northumbrian Water by calling 0845 717 1100.

*

Rinse vegetables in a bowl rather than in water from a running tap.

*

Use a rainwater butt to collect rainwater for watering plants
