For a number of years local authorities have worked under a local planning framework called the Unitary Development Plan (UDP). Recently the majority of local authorities have revisited UDPs and started to migrate policies and create new policies to work effectively within a new, easier framework, called the Local Development Framework (LDF). South Tyneside is ongoing in this process.
