Parking for people with disabilities

Disabled parking signBlue Badge holders can park free in all town centre public car parks.

In the short-stay car parks free parking is available up to 3 hours to ensure there is a turnover of space for Blue Badge holders.

A number of spaces near pedestrian exits are designated for Blue Badge holders only. Please leave these for use by the more severely disabled.

Free parking, for a maximum of 3 hours, is also available for Blue Badge holders in on-street disabled bays, as indicated on the plan.

Charges

Currently, car parking is free for Blue Badge holders.

Blue Badge

Contact the Star Centre 0191 423 0200 (Fax 0191 423 0201) for more information on getting a Blue Badge. You can now apply for the Blue Badge Parking Scheme online.

Misuse of the scheme

Many people have complained that there is too little blue badge parking in South Shields town centre. As in other places, abuse of the scheme makes the problem much worse.

Please use the Blue Badge responsibly.

Fines of up to £1000 can be imposed on people misusing the scheme, and the badge withdrawn.
