What does the proposed new policy include?
It would be a permit pass policy, which addresses some of the weaknesses of the existing scheme.
The existing scheme, for example, does not allow for flexibility on charging, or allow residents with garages or off street parking to buy parking permits. It also excludes businesses and visitors.
The new scheme would include businesses.
Residents with garages or off street parking would be able to buy permits. The cost is recommended at £50 a year, which is less than £1 a week. It could be paid quarterly.
What would parking permits not be required for?
Parking permits would not be required for:
- Disabled residents and those over 65
- Care services
- Fire and Rescue Service
- Ambulance Service
- Police Service
- Collection or delivery of postal packets
- Undertakers
- Formal wedding cars or hearses
Parking permits would not be required for loading or unloading vehicles.
Residents with parking permits would also receive a book of tokens (25 for every three months, 100 per year) to allow people working on their homes to park for four hours.
