Parking: New residents' parking policy

What is the current position?

We currently have 11 parking schemes in South Tyneside.  They are in:

  • Ada Street, South Shields
  • Westoe Village, South Shields
  • Grosvenor Road, Lavington Road, Tynedale Road, Redhead Road and St George’s Avenue
  • Sunderland Road, South Shields
  • North Road, Back East View, Boldon Colliery
  • Grange Road West, Grange Place, Beverley Court and Selby Court, Jarrow
  • Beaufront Terrace, South Shields
  • Northcote Street, Stanhope Parade and Marlborough Street, South Shields
  • St Hilda Street
  • Romily Street, Bolingbroke Street, Berkley Street, Erskine Road, Salisbury Street, Broughton Road, Lyndhurst Street and Selbourne Street, South Shields
  • Beach Road and St John's Court, South Shields

These schemes have been in place for ten years and were enforced by Northumbria Police until 2002. 

In February 2007, South Tyneside Council took over the responsibility for enforcement of the existing and potential new permit parking areas.
