What happens now?
South Tyneside Council has an excellent track record of listening to residents.
We will only introduce the revised policy if it is supported by more than half of the people who respond to our consultation in Community Area Forums, through leaflets and surveys at the Summer consultation roadshow and on this website.
Recommendations will be made to Cabinet in October 2008, based on consultation over the Summer.
If the revised policy is then agreed, we will revise the policy for the whole borough, which will enable us to deliver a more flexible approach throughout the borough, including the existing 11 areas.
We will then consider which areas (approximately six – potentially one from each Community Area Forum area) will go forward in the first year for neighbourhood consultation as potential parking permit areas.
This will be based on feedback from residents. Community Area Forums, for example, will give their views about which neighbourhoods in their area would be a priority.
