Strategic Planning Policy

Planning Policy in South Tyneside is dealt with by the Strategic Policy & Projects Group within Neighbourhood Services. The Group also deals with the strategic policy areas of Transport, Housing and Urban Design, together with the management of development projects, Countryside schemes and public rights of way.

The strategy, policies and proposals for the use and development of land in the Borough are currently set out in the South Tyneside Unitary Development Plan (UDP) which was adopted in October 1999.

The UDP is now being reviewed and will be replaced by a new Local Development Framework (LDF) in accordance with the Government's planning reforms. Further details about the emerging new LDF, including how you can play a part in its formulation, will be placed on these pages as the review process progresses.
