The South Tyneside Local Development Framework (LDF) is a new type of borough-wide spatial development plan that will gradually replace the existing Unitary Development Plan (UDP).
The LDF will guide the future development of the Borough over the next 10-15 years. It is a blueprint for the economic, social and environmental regeneration of South Tyneside.
It takes forward the vision of the council's Transformational Plan and provides the framework for implementing the aims and objectives of the Spirit of South Tyneside (the council's Sustainable Community Strategy, Regeneration Strategy and Local Area Agreement).
The LDF strategy will also be influenced by national planning policy and the emerging Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the North East.
The LDF will be prepared over the next 3-4 years. During its preparation these web pages will be kept up to date with how things are progressing.
Public Consultation
There will be public consultation stages throughout the preparation of the LDF. The consultation stages give you the opportunity to let us know what you would like to see for the South Tyneside of the 21st Century. Our public consultation page provides details about how you can get involved in the planning process and how to respond with your views on current consultation exercises.
Guidance on how you can get involved and influence the preparation of the Local Development Framework is set out in our consultation strategy, the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). It also sets out how we will seek to involve you in the planning process, including guidance on the consideration of planning applications within the Borough through the Development Control process.
Details of our proposed LDF documents and the timetable for their production are set out in the Local Development Scheme, which is our guide to the LDF and the planning system. This also sets out when public consultation stages are due to take place, as well as any Independent Examinations and the expected final adoption dates for each LDF document.
You can access all published LDF documents from our Document Library, including all first stage 'preferred options' draft and second stage 'submission draft' versions that are available for public consultation, as well as final adopted versions once available. You can also download copies of statutory notices, consultation response forms, etc., as well as other policy-related publications.
