Glossary | H - LA - C | D - G | H - L | M - Q | R - S | T - Z Any installation which involves the presence of specified substances above certain quantities such that they might constitute a health or safety risk. The local planning authority is required to consult the Health and Safety Executive if a planning application is submitted for such an installation. This document is submitted annually by the Council to the Department of the Environment and is used as a basis for the allocation of housing finance from central government to local authorities. There are two types of improvement areas, Industrial Improvement Areas (IIAs) and Commercial Improvement Areas (CIAs).
