- Approximately 8,500 tonnes of domestic waste is recycled or
composted each year.
- South Tyneside residents on average recycle or compost 60kg
of their waste each year.
- 80,000 tonnes of municipal waste is processed each year.
- Approximately 12% of our municipal waste is recovered each year.
The residents of South Tyneside have in the last three years recycled 3,330 tonnes of paper, 4,500 tonnes of metals & cans, 1,600 tonnes of wood and timber and 970 tonnes of glass bottles. We have recently introduced green waste recycling at our civic amenity and so far we have recovered over 2,850 tonnes.
