  • We make over 3,380,000 collections of household waste each year.
  • We collect from over 1,400 commercial and industrial premises each week.
  • We undertake over 26,000 special collections of bulky household waste and garden refuse each year.
  • We operate 32 Recycling Centres and 1 Civic Amenity Site.
  • Approximately 8,500 tonnes of domestic waste is recycled or composted each year.
  • South Tyneside residents on average recycle or compost 60kg of their waste each year.
  • 80,000 tonnes of municipal waste is processed each year.
  • Approximately 12% of our municipal waste is recovered each year.

The residents of South Tyneside have in the last three years recycled 3,330 tonnes of paper, 4,500 tonnes of metals & cans, 1,600 tonnes of wood and timber and 970 tonnes of glass bottles. We have recently introduced green waste recycling at our civic amenity and so far we have recovered over 2,850 tonnes.
