Who can foster?

FamilyWe don’t think there is such a thing as a typical foster carer.  Foster carers in South Tyneside come from all walks of life. Single or married, employed or unemployed, home owner or living in rented accommodation, they are all different as are the children and young people they care for.  So don’t rule yourself out before speaking to us.

You must be over 21 to foster but there is no particular upper age limit, but you must be able to care for and meet the needs of a child or young person.

Many other questions can be answered in our fostering FAQs.

What skills will you need?

All you need are life skills and to be able to provide a safe and secure loving home.

Life skills are simply qualities you will already have developed through life experiences. The assessment and training process will help identify and develop these qualities.
