Who can receive Direct Payments?
Direct Payments for children
To receive Direct Payments you must:
- Be a parent of a disabled child or
- Be a disabled young person aged 16 to 17 years old or
- Be a young carer aged 16 years or 17 years or
- A parent with a disability and parental responsibility for a child or
- You and/or your child have undergone an
assessment and been assessed as needing support services and - Be willing and able to manage the direct payments (with support if required)
Direct Payments for adults
To receive Direct Payments you must:
- Be over 18 years old and have been assessed as needing community care services or
- A young person over 16 years of age with a disability or
- A carer of someone with a disability who has been assessed as needing support and
- Be willing and able to manage the direct payments (with support if required)
You can’t receive Direct Payments if
- You are excluded under the direct payments regulations (for example, you are detained under certain mental health legislation)
