Direct Payments

What happens next?

If you would like to know more about Direct Payments, speak with your Social Worker or Care Manager.

You will need an assessment from a Social Worker or Care Manager before Direct Payments can be offered as an option for care services.

If you need more information about this, contact:

Our Children’s duty team on 0191 424 5010

Our Adult duty team on 0845 130 4959

What happens when I've been assessed?

Once your assessment has taken place and you or your child have been assessed as needing care services, a Direct Payments Officer will then visit you at home and give you more detailed information and explain the scheme to you.

They can provide:

  • Initial information
  • Employer information
  • Support with paperwork
  • Payroll service (if required)
  • Leaflets and fact sheets
  • Support groups of young people/ families in a similar situation to your own, which you will be invited to
