What we're doing about Empty Property
South Tyneside Council recognises the need to develop and implement an effective and imaginative Private Sector Empty Homes Strategy in order to reduce the number of vacant homes within the Borough and to support its wider strategic housing objectives.
The Environmental Health team is able to offer advice and possible financial assistance to anyone that owns an empty property or a first time buyer that wants to buy an empty property to turn into their first home.
If you live near or are aware of a house that seems to have been empty for a long time and nobody seems to be looking after it, please contact the Council with the address of the property. We will try to trace the owner and get it occupied.
